Most posts of this journal will be private, but posts relating to fandom and whatever else I see fit will be public. Add me if you like.

Friending policy and introduction of sortsCollapse )

Lucifer. Finally. I think SHINee is on their way to godhood as well, but then again, what god is named shiny? That's like what happens when you give a kid the name Nemo and it's fine when they're young but no one can take them seriously when they grow up. I actually do know a kid named Nemo. Fortunately, most people call him Alan.

This remix and the laser beam gloves are really quite agreeable to my aesthetic tastes.

And of course SNSD had to do Gee. Damn you, pole.

Back to SNSD.

I'm going to have to say, this is probably my best video of the night. They were on the stage closer to us, and the pole never got in the way or anything. I would equate seeing SNSD doing the leg flick dance in real life to seeing Replay and Sorry Sorry and Mirotic in real life. Legendary, basically.

Taemin's moves are incredibly sharp. I wish I had gotten the full dance break not on the big screen (I switch to to the big screen when the pole is blocking the actual people), but oh well. This song still cracks me up, and also it was pretty heavily autotuned. Most of the concert was, but they sang well, so it's fine.

Naughty naughty Mr. Simple. Kyuhyun had so many lines everywhere that the concert was slightly Donghae-deficient. And Sungmin, I have to say.

Okay so about how I'm like 2 weeks late. Well I have an excuse. It's correge apps. And I have a violin concert tonight that I'm sort of half screwed for but I don't really feel like practicing. I always seem to be procrastinating something when I get on here...and this is in 3 parts, because I have a ridiculous number of videos.

This is more of a video-and-commentary log than an actual fan account, just due to the fact that I find flail-y fan accounts embarrassing to read and even more embarrassing to write. Anything remotely overly fangirl-y is just. 8|. Like that one girl (she was white, jsyk) shikonsapphire and I saw in front of Madison Square Garden a few hours before it started screaming into a camera about how much she loves Key and showing off her hoodie emblazoned on the back with a really sketchy looking key. At the moment, I walked away and hid from embarrassment.

I will have it known though, that I am fangirling really really hard on the inside. And I wish I could be as cool as that girl. (Even though my jacket would turn out better. /shifty eyes)

Woot! Sold out!

Walking around Manhattan that day, there were so many asians just milling around...and fangirls with SHINee and TVXQ and SJ shirts and SM Town tote bags (I really wanted one but they were like $25 and I didn't actually think to bring that much cash). After lunch in Chinatown Tian and I went to Koreatown and looked for kpop albums, and we found them, but they were ridiculously overpriced. Maybe $20-$25 per album. We wanted to stop by Kyochon Chicken, you know the place Onew (and SHINee of course, but just Onew comes to mind...) did his chicken cf for, but we were too full of dimsum. Maybe another time. Maybe if I go to college in NYC. >__>

Somewhere in Koreatown we saw a flashmob. I don't remember what song it was, so it must have been a newer one, or maybe a newer group that I don't follow. Or maybe I'm just ridiculously behind on fandom due to correges, idk. Of course I just sort of ran off as I usually do, but now that I think about it, I should have taken pictures.

so many asians ◕ o◕v

When we arrived at the venue an hour before the concert, we tried to get in some merchandise lines...lines in a general term, they were more like mobs. Took maybe 30-45 minutes being squished in a giant clump of asians to come away with a $8 Kyuhyun fan for Tian and a $15 mug for me. The people behind the counter kept shouting at us to stop pushing the counters back, and if we kept doing it they would stop selling, and I overheard another lady behind the counter saying that in her 17 years of working for MSG (lol msg, so appropriate), she'd never seen anything like this. I attribute the below to underestimating the power of asian fangirls. Below the cut, that is.

Follow the fangirly roadCollapse )

SMTown NYC.

It hurts how much I love them.

I PROMISE I WILL MAKE A HUGE AWESOME POST FULL OF PICTURES AND ALL MY 10 GIGS OF FANCAMS AND AMAZING STUFF LIKE THAT. Good seats + fantastic zoom on camera = awesome fancams, if only the huge robotic video camera arm wasn't in my way half the time. Sigh. It'll have to wait until after early action college apps are due though, November 1st. Every time I open up my application I'm just like *anxiety attack* and then I quit out of it. Yeah. A woman working at Madison Square Garden said that in the 17 years that she'd been working there, that night was by far the craziest. They underestimated the power of kpop fans, /shakes head.

And yes, Key did wave in my general direction. My biggest regret is not putting the hood of my pikachu hoodie up. If I had, he might have even registered/remembered me. Then again I'll just go study for calc and shut up. I'm sorry for not being here guys, school and college apps (14 of them, dammit, and half of them are for the Ivy League), but sooooooon

A few pictures because I feel badCollapse )

Basically, I'm still not sure if this was real life.

I'M SORRY THE NUMBER IS SO ARBITRARY. Also I wrote this a year ago, just never posted it.
  1. Stay up way too late cause you just can't leave your computer. Then wonder what you were doing up so late when you wake up the next morning. Er, afternoon.
  2. Everything connects back to fandom. Everything. Sooner or later. (Try connecting highlighters to fandom. I bet you can do it in less than 3 steps.)
  3. Sorry. Sorry sorry sorry.
  4. A pineapple is no longer just a fruit. It is an instrument with which you can kill abusive boyfriends.
  5. Suddenly want to feed Taemin
  6. Somehow, it isn't strange to see Heechul prancing around in fishnet stockings and red stilettos or Key lying on a red velvet sofa wearing handcuffs singing Kesha anymore. It's sort of an accepted thing that these things will happen. That just makes it more awesome when it actually does happen.
  7. Forget that not every woman is as gorgeous SNSD. Or Taemin.
  8. Say I'm so sorry. Resist the urge to add But I love you.
  9. Read fanfic more than actual books. Think fanfic is better than actual books.
  10. Everyone you love is in the opposite hemisphere. Also apparently, according to SM, you do not live in the world. And become jealous of anyone this does not apply to.
  11. No money in wallet...
  12. See something similar to what an idol wore on the last episode of Inkigayo. After buying it, wear it and feel like you have a ~*special connection*~ to that person.
  13. Memory on computer's harddrive gets eaten up. Slowly but surely.
  14. Listen to a song in English or a language you know, but don't realize you understand the lyrics until the song is half over.
  15. Your name is Minho.
  16. One glimpse of fandom in real life makes your day.
  17. You become fantastic elastic supersonic manic electronic bionic loverholic robotronic. And gorgeous sweet amazing baby.
  18. Break out into random dances: Tell Me, Gee, So Hot, Bo Peep, Sorry Sorry, I Don't Care, Nobody, Supergirl, Abracadabra, etc.
  19. Stan bias to death. Stan OTP to death. They are srs bsns.
  20. Repent to Shisus due to listening to references to the devil and the illuminati and mind control.
  21. Have a gif for every occasion.
  22. Forget what you used to do on the internet before fandom...
  23. Tell parents you want to go shopping. Go to Semir and stare at the SJM ads.
  24. Like kpop? Instant friends.

I know it's been a while since this song was released, but I just read through the comments on the Omona post for it. And to be honest I found the comments to be more disappointing than anything else.

The majority of the people who commented said that they thought the song was basic, the chorus was too tryhard, whiny, and clunky, and the MV doesn't bring anything new to the table. I respect their opinions to dislike a song if they truly feel that way, and I do concede that the chorus was a bit...lyrically lacking, and not just because it was in English (why does it matter what language it's in anyway?); however, I must say that I feel like many people missed the point of the song.

To me, the way the chorus is sung refutes the actual words they are speaking. Forget about the clunkiness of the lyrics, and if you've read enough English translations of lyrics and/or have enough experience with Asian languages in general, you know that translations can be very, very general and can be taken many different ways. You learn to take the basic sense and feeling of the phrase and forget about the wording. Although the girls are singing that they think they're ugly and nobody wants to love them (not true, but still), it feels to me more like they're echoing the insults of others, that they don't truly believe them. The way they sing the words, their attitude makes me think that at the same time they're singing the words, they're crushing them under their feet. Am I making sense?

However at the same time, the verses speak of not feeling pretty and loved. This is where they can connect with their audience, because almost everybody can relate to those feelings. But it leads up to the chorus refuting them, or at least trampling them.

Nothing is ever so simple, and I think once you understand the meaning it will stick with you and mean more to you than just having the meaning sung to you in the first place. However, feel free to interpret it as you like, but in the end, the song truly is about self-empowerment and feeling good in your own skin.

(and those of you, my dear irl friends, that keep telling me that kpop is the devil and can never have a deep meaning, I'M SANE, I'M JUST...UHM, PRACTICING MY...ANALYTICAL SKILLS FOR WHEN SCHOOL STARTS 8D)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEY, I LOVE YOU SO MUCH AND SHINEE IS PRETTY MUCH WHAT GETS ME THROUGH THE SCHOOL YEAR AND THANKS FOR BEING WHO YOU ARE. EVEN BRUTALLY HONEST AS YOU ARE, which honestly pissed me off for about a millisecond, and then I went back to normal.

/goes back to freaking out about tests

I went over to shikonsapphire's house on Monday, and we painted the shoes we bought at the dollar store. They used to be white canvas shoes.

What's really sad though, is that I bought them in size 8, which is my size...but I didn't bother to try them on cause usually 8 fits, and they're a bit too small...and I didn't notice until I wore them to work yesterday. I can deal with it though, just to wear pretty shoes T-T

Also I can't draw. Or paint. SO YEAH. D: Tian's is much better, even if she's not completely done. She also still has my sharpies. I REALLY HOPE IT'S WATERPROOF...AND TIAN WANTS TO COVER IT WITH WOOD VARNISH OTL. Idea half stolen from seratia, half from Jenny...

More pictures under here!Collapse )

In other news, I'm really loving Sistar's new single. So much better than the labor room song...I've had it on repeat all last night and this morning. I miss you so much, you're so special to me, I love you boy! ♥
